Never file a note. Find every one.
Capture into the project you are working on. Compass tags each note with one of 20 founder topics, and search finds what you meant, not only what you typed.

How it works
How notes find their place
Pick a project once
Create a project for each company or bet you are working on. Notes land in the active project, and you switch with the folder menu at the top of Home.
Compass files the note
Each note gets one of 20 categories built for founders, in five groups: Strategic Foundation, Building, Learning from Market, Company Building and Founder. It also gets a subcategory, like Runway under Finances.
Filter the feed
Category chips at the top of Home narrow the feed to Feedback, Finances, Team or whatever else you have been thinking about. Pin the notes you keep coming back to.
Search by meaning
Type in "Search anything" and exact matches appear first. AI search then finds related notes, insights, memories, post ideas and community stories, even when they use different words.
For founders
Where it earns its keep
Two companies, one head
Keep an advisory project apart from your own startup. Insights and memory stay inside the project they came from.
Before the board meeting
Tap Metrics or Finances and read everything you have thought about it lately, newest first.
The thing someone said in March
Search "pricing pushback" and find the note that said "they balked at the annual plan".
Where your head actually is
The counts on the category chips show what you spend your thinking on, which is not always what you planned.
Why it is different
What sets it apart
Categories built for founders
Twenty topics, from PMF Signals and Competitors to Energy and Narrative, instead of a generic tag cloud.
No filing
You never pick a folder or type a tag. The category is Compass's call, and you can change it.
One search for everything
One search covers your notes and what Compass built from them: insights, memories, post ideas and community stories.
Good to know
The honest limits
- Compass does not guess the project. A note goes to the active project, and you can move it.
- Categories are an AI call. You can change any of them.
- AI search needs Compass Pro. Plain text search over your notes works without a subscription.
- Part of Compass Pro, which starts with a 14-day free trial.
FAQ
Questions
What are the 20 categories?
Strategic Foundation: Mission/Vision, Market Timing, PMF Signals, Competitors. Building: Product Strategy, Velocity, Quality, Metrics. Learning from Market: Discovery, Feedback, Distribution & Growth, Business Model. Company Building: Team, Culture, Finances, Operations. Founder: Energy, Learnings, Experiments, Narrative.
Can I change a category?
Yes. Pick a different category on the note and Compass keeps your choice.
Can I use Compass for more than one company?
Yes. Create a project for each one in Settings and switch between them from the folder menu. Insights and memory are kept per project.
How is AI search different from normal search?
Normal search matches the words you type. AI search compares meaning, so "hiring is slow" can find a note about the backend role nobody applied for.
Can I search without a subscription?
Yes. Plain text search over your existing notes works in read-only mode. AI search needs Compass Pro or the free trial.
