How it works
How your notes are protected
Encrypted at rest
Each account gets its own data key, and your notes, memories and chats are stored encrypted with AES-256-GCM. The key that protects those keys is kept in Cloudflare's secrets store, apart from your data.
Read only to do the work
Notes are decrypted in memory to transcribe, organize, find insights and draft posts, and are processed only by the AI providers named in our Privacy Policy. We do not sell your notes or use them to train our own models.
Privacy on every note
Set a note Private, Internal or Shareable. Private notes are never drafted into posts and never mirrored to iCloud Drive.
Lock what matters most
Lock a note and it opens only with Face ID, Touch ID or your PIN. Lock All Now re-locks everything at once.
Take it with you
Export chosen days, a week, a month or everything as Markdown, JSON or PDF, to the share sheet, iCloud Drive or email. Or mirror your notes to iCloud Drive as daily Markdown files.

The honest limits
- This is encryption at rest, not end-to-end encryption. Compass decrypts notes on its servers to run the AI features.
- Compass needs AI processing to work. Turning it off in Settings pauses the app until you agree again.
- Locks, privacy levels and export come with every account. Capturing new notes needs Compass Pro, which starts with a 14-day free trial.

Questions
Is Compass end-to-end encrypted?
No. Notes are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM and a per-account key, and decrypted in memory on our servers to run AI features like transcription, insights and drafts.
Which AI providers see my notes?
Anthropic's Claude models organize notes, surface insights and draft posts. OpenAI's open-source Whisper model, run on Cloudflare Workers AI, transcribes voice notes, and AssemblyAI transcribes recorded conversations. Each processes your data only to provide the feature.
Do you train AI on my notes?
No. We do not sell your notes, license them or use them to train our own models.
How do I export my notes?
In Settings, open Export Data. Pick days on the calendar, a week or a month, or Export Everything, as Markdown, JSON or PDF, and send it to the share sheet, iCloud Drive or email.
Can I delete my account?
Yes, from Settings. Compass deletes your notes, recordings, transcripts and the rest of your data, and revokes its Sign in with Apple access.
