Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Compass iOS application and the website at usecompass.app (together, the "Service"), operated by Compass ("we," "us," "our").

By using Compass, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

1. The Service

Compass is a note-taking app built for startup founders. It lets you capture notes (text and voice), and uses AI to categorize, connect, and surface patterns in your thinking.

We're actively building and improving Compass. Features may change, and we may add or remove functionality as we develop the product.

2. Your Account

You need an account to use Compass. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. If you suspect unauthorized access, let us know immediately at [email protected].

You must be at least 13 years old to use Compass. By creating an account, you confirm you meet this requirement.

3. Your Content

You own everything you create in Compass. Your notes, voice recordings, and any other content you put into the app belong to you. We don't claim any ownership or intellectual property rights over your content.

You grant us a limited license to store, process, and display your content solely to provide you with the Service. This includes running AI features on your notes (categorization, pattern detection, summaries). We don't use your content for any other purpose.

4. AI Features

Compass uses AI to help you organize and find patterns in your notes. A few things to know:

• AI-generated suggestions, categories, and connections are informational tools. They're not professional advice (legal, financial, medical, or otherwise).
• AI output can be wrong. Always use your own judgment when making decisions based on what Compass surfaces.
• Your notes are processed by AI to serve you. Your data is never used to train AI models.

5. Acceptable Use

Don't use Compass to:

• Break any laws or regulations.
• Store or transmit malware, viruses, or other harmful code.
• Attempt to access other users' accounts or data.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app.
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service's infrastructure.
• Use automated tools to scrape or extract data from the Service.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.

6. Subscriptions and Billing

Compass offers both free and paid tiers. Paid subscriptions are processed through the Apple App Store and managed by RevenueCat.

• Payment is handled entirely by Apple. We never see or store your payment card information.
• Subscriptions auto-renew unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
• To cancel, manage your subscription through your Apple ID settings or the App Store.
• Refunds follow Apple's refund policies. Contact Apple Support for refund requests.

7. Termination

You can stop using Compass and delete your account at any time. Email [email protected] for account deletion.

We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if we need to for legal, security, or operational reasons. We'll try to give you reasonable notice when possible.

After termination, we'll delete your data within 30 days, except where we're legally required to keep it.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

Compass is provided "as is" and "as available." We do our best to keep things running smoothly, but we can't guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or meet every specific need you have.

To the maximum extent allowed by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Compass and its team will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service.

Our total liability for any claim related to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose (or $100, whichever is greater).

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Compass harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service or violation of these Terms.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Any disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in San Francisco County, California. You consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll notify you via email or an in-app notice at least 30 days before the changes take effect.

Continued use of Compass after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you disagree with any changes, stop using the Service and delete your account.

13. Miscellaneous

• If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
• Our failure to enforce any right or provision doesn't waive that right.
• These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and Compass regarding the Service.
